As Manager of Sports Nutrition Science at Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB), Doug is intimately engaged in the launch of new sports nutrition-related products, including the brand’s latest science innovation – Accelerade. He is also responsible for further developing and implementing aspects of the health and well-being strategy related to physical activity and energy.
Before joining CSAB in late 2006, Doug was a senior research scientist for NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. For over two years, he used his extensive undergraduate, graduate and post-doctorate work to determine the influence of nutrition and exercise on preventing deconditioning in astronauts. He coordinated the development of research proposals, lead multi-disciplinary teams that identified research gaps and provided key scientific guidance and oversight to identify integrated countermeasures to minimize loss of skeletal muscle and optimize health and performance.
Doug graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Nutrition. He completed his Masters in Exercise Physiology two years later from Ball State University and obtained his Ph.D. in Exercise Science and Nutrition from the University of Connecticut in 2001. Doug also conducted a three-year, post-doctorate fellowship from the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
Doug resides in Plano, Texas with his wife and two kids. He has been running for the past 15 years and has participated in a number of triathlons and marathons. He currently cross-trains by running, cycling and lifting weights to stay in shape.

Jessi W.
-
Jessi has a passion for all things running. She likes moisture-wicking fabrics, custom insoles, the half marathon and the kind of rubber bands that grip her hair so as to not slide out mid-run. She hates being injured, too short running shorts and sweat in her eyes. She maintains a consistent 25 miles a week. Unless she's training. Then, the mileage can get ridiculous — and if she's not careful, so can the stress fractures. She eats a mostly organic diet and often craves chocolate. And yes, she indulges — in organic chocolate, of course.
Jessi is a copywriter at VML where her primary focus is on the Accelerade account. And she thinks that's a good thing. Because endurance, and learning how to increase it, may just be something that she loves. Endlessly.

Beth B.
-
Beth likes to eat. Long-standing favorites are pasta, vegetables and cheese. So, it's a good thing she also loves sports and working out. Running is her workout of choice, but her scar collection reflects a history of mountain biking and outdoor pursuits including skiing and scuba diving. The other scars are from post-marathon knee surgery and childbirth. No surprise, her biggest workout challenge in her life is finding time to fit it in, plus the time to cook healthy meals for her marathon-addicted husband and extremely active toddler, who is already into going for a quarter-miler nightly. She prays she can keep up, and even get back into triathlons at age 40.
Beth is Associate Director of Research and Planning at VML. She works on actively planning and improving the online experience of the Accelerade community. If you have ideas, she wants to hear them. Or some great training war stories. Or recipes. Or a good joke.
